Why Brazilian hardwood is different

Extreme hardness and natural color set these floors apart from anything grown in North America. No stain required, and built to last generations.

Unmatched hardness

Species like Ipê and Cumaru rate two to three times harder than oak, shrugging off daily wear.

Natural color

From pale Tauari to deep red Jatobá, the color is in the wood itself, no staining needed.

A floor for generations

Properly cared for, a Brazilian hardwood floor outlasts the home improvement trends that come and go.

Common questions

Is Brazilian hardwood harder than oak?

Yes, significantly. Oak rates around 1290 to 1360 on the Janka scale. Brazilian species range from 1460 for Tauari up to 3680 for Ipê.

Should I choose solid or engineered?

Solid is ideal on or above ground over wood subfloors. Engineered suits concrete, basements and radiant heat. Our Knowledge Center guide covers the full comparison.
